Science Car Race
57.5K playsPick your car and drive through the lane with the right science answer! Choose a puppy, fox, bear or chick in a go-kart, pick your science (animals, my body, weather, plants, space, matter, living things, Earth or energy), then race three rivals down a winding road. Every right answer makes you faster, and every wrong one lets a rival pass you.
Ten science questions stand between your go-kart and the checkered flag. Science Car Race for kids is a free driving game where you steer a little kart into the lane with the right answer: which animal says moo, what a plant needs to grow, which planet has big, bright rings. Every right answer makes your car faster, and every wrong one lets a rival slip past.
There are four age levels, from toddlers who pick answers by picture to tweens who race through questions about DNA and the Earth's crust. You can play in any web browser on a computer, tablet or phone, with nothing to install and no account needed.
๐ Science Car Race for Kids: Drive Into the Right Answer
The road twists over green hills under a smiling sun and a big rainbow. Four karts race down it, and ten times a race a pink bridge called a gate stretches across the road. A sign hangs over every lane, and each sign holds one possible answer. The question sits on a white plate at the top of the screen, with a small label that names the topic, like ๐ฑ Plants or ๐ช Space.
When your kart gets close, the gate starts gliding along just in front of you, so its words stay big enough to read. After about ten seconds it stops, you drive under it, and the game checks your lane. If you're under the right answer, it turns green on the plate, and your kart gets a burst of speed.
๐พ Meet the four drivers
You choose one of four chubby go-kart drivers: Puppy in a red kart, Foxy in a purple one, Bear in a green one and Chick in a pink one. Each wears a little helmet and a scarf, and each kart has a flag on a pole. The three drivers you don't pick become your rivals. On the result card, your driver smiles extra wide if you finished 1st or 2nd.
๐บ๏ธ A Tour of the Nine Science Topics
Each level has its own set of topics, and you can pick one on the setup screen or choose Mixed. Here is a real question from each topic, straight from the game:
๐พ Animals (toddlers to elementary): "A baby horse is called aโฆ" Foal, not Puppy, Chick or Tadpole.
๐ My Body (toddlers and preschool): "What do you clap with?" โ Hands.
๐ฆ๏ธ Weather (toddlers and preschool): "What should you do in a thunderstorm?" ๐ Go inside, never stand under a tree.
๐ฑ Plants (preschool and elementary): "What sweet drink do bees sip from flowers?" Nectar.
๐ช Space (elementary and tweens): "What is the band of rocky objects between Mars and Jupiter?" The asteroid belt.
๐ง Matter (elementary): "Which one is a liquid?" Milk, not a brick, air or sand.
๐ฌ Living Things (tweens): "What does DNA carry?" Instructions for building a living thing.
๐ Earth (tweens): "What is Earth's thin, rocky outer layer called?" The crust.
โก Energy (tweens): "Force is measured inโฆ" Newtons.
Toddlers and preschoolers race on three lanes, and their answers come with pictures, like ๐ง Water or ๐ฅ Carrot. Elementary kids and tweens get four lanes with words only.
๐ฎ Driving Lessons: From the Setup Screen to the Finish Card
Fill in the setup screen. Choose your level under 1. Pick your level, your driver under 2. Pick your car, and your topic under 3. Pick your science. The game remembers all three, so next time you can go straight to the big green Start Racing! button.

Get ready on the grid. A countdown starts the race. The first gate is closer than the rest, so the first question arrives quickly.
Steer your kart. Use the โ and โ arrow keys (or A and D), the two green arrow buttons under the road, or hold your finger on the road to the left or right of your kart. The number keys work too: 1 is the left lane, 2 the next one, and so on.
Follow the gold edge. The sign above your lane glows with a gold border. Move until the gold border is around the answer you want.
Hear the question. With the site's sound on, each question is read aloud when its gate starts gliding. Tap the plate to hear it again. For toddlers and preschoolers, the answers are read from left to right as well.
Brake, boost or pause. Hold โ or the red Brake button to slow down. Hold โ or the yellow Boost button to speed up. Press Space or the Pause button to freeze the race, and the Setup button to go back and change your choices.
Check the dashboard. Your points and gate number (like Gate 4 / 10) sit above the road. Your place and speed sit in the corners of the road picture.
Finish and read the card. After the tenth gate you drive a short way to the finish line. The result card shows your medal, gates right, final score and stars. Choose Race Again or Change Setup. The page's buttons for music, fullscreen and reload work during the race as well.
๐งฎ The Place Rule: Count Your Wrong Answers
Here is the secret most new drivers don't know. Where you finish has nothing to do with how fast you drive. It only depends on how many gates you got wrong:
All 10 right: 1st place, the gold medal.
One wrong: 2nd place.
Two wrong: 3rd place.
Three or more wrong: 4th place.
In our own test drive, Chick got 9 of 10 gates right at the Preschool level and finished 2nd, just one place off the win. The rival karts don't answer anything. They speed up and slow down with you, then settle into the places your answers earned. So a careful driver who brakes to read beats a fast driver who guesses, every time.
Right answers still change how your kart drives. Each one raises your cruising speed a little and refills part of your boost tank. A wrong answer makes the kart wobble, slows it down, and lowers your cruising speed one step.
๐ Winning Moves for Young Drivers
1. Notice the topic label first
The plate always shows which topic the question comes from, like ๐ฆ๏ธ Weather. Seeing "Weather" before you read gets your brain ready to think about rain, sun and wind, so the answer comes faster.
2. Say the pictures out loud
On the Toddlers and Preschool levels, every answer has a picture. Saying "candy, water, pizza" out loud helps young drivers check each one against the question. It's also a nice job for a grown-up sitting next to them.
3. Spot the joke answer
Many gates have one answer that is clearly silly, like ๐ Pizza for what a plant needs, or ๐ Pop a balloon for what to do before you eat. Find it and forget it. Now you only have to choose between the others.
4. Two lines on the plate? Touch the brake
When a question wraps onto two lines, or the signs have long answers, hold Brake for a moment. The gliding gate keeps pace with you, so slowing down means more time under readable signs, and it never costs you a place.
5. Boost on the stretch after a right answer
Your boost tank refills a big chunk every time you answer right, and it also refills slowly by itself. The empty road right after a gate is the best place to spend it, before the next question shows up. Boost doesn't work on the grass, and after the last gate it switches off.
6. Keep all four wheels on the road
Drive onto the grass and your kart slows down a lot. Using the number keys to change lanes keeps you safely in the middle of a lane, even on a bend.
7. Turn your practice list into your next topic
If the result card says Practice these again, look at which topic those questions came from. Choose that topic on the setup screen and race it again until it feels easy.
๐ป Six Gates From Our Test Drive
Toddlers: "What makes puddles?"
Three pictures, such as ๐ง๏ธ Rain, โ๏ธ Sun and ๐ Moon. Ask, "What do we see right before puddles appear?" Rain falls, water collects on the ground, and splash, a puddle. The sun does the opposite and dries puddles up.
Preschool: "What does a plant need to grow?"
Our signs said ๐ฌ Candy, ๐ง Water and ๐ Pizza. Plants don't eat food the way we do. They drink water through their roots and make their own food with sunlight. Candy and pizza are joke answers, so Water wins.
Preschool: "Which one is a vegetable?"
This is the gate our test driver missed! The signs were ๐ Apple, ๐ฅ Carrot and ๐ Grapes, and the kart went under Grapes. Apples and grapes are fruits, the sweet parts of a plant that hold seeds. A carrot is a root that grows under the ground, so it's a vegetable. The result card listed it under Practice these again with the answer, Carrot.
Elementary: "Which animal is an insect?"
Ant, Spider, Worm or Snail. Count legs! Every insect has 6 legs. A spider has 8, a worm has none, and a snail slides on one soft foot. The ant, with its 6 legs, is the only insect.
Tweens: "Rock made of layers of sand and mud pressed together isโฆ"
Sedimentary, Igneous, Metamorphic or Volcanic. The clue is "layers". Sand and mud that settle at the bottom of lakes and seas are called sediment, and over a very long time they get squeezed into rock. Igneous rock comes from melted rock that cooled, and metamorphic rock was changed by heat and pressure.
Tweens: "Which organ pumps blood through your body?"
Heart, Lungs, Liver or Kidneys. Each organ has a job: lungs bring in air, the liver cleans the blood, and the kidneys make urine. Only the heart is a pump. Put your hand on your chest after running, and you can feel it working.
๐จโ๐ฉโ๐ง Which Level Fits Your Driver?
๐ผ Science Car Race for toddlers (ages 2โ4)
The slowest road, three lanes and big picture answers about animals, the body and weather. Everything can be read aloud. Most toddlers enjoy it most with a grown-up as co-driver: the child points at a picture, and the grown-up presses the number key.
๐งธ Science Car Race for preschoolers (ages 4โ6)
Still three picture lanes, now with Plants and questions that need a little thinking, like where honey bees get nectar or why you go inside in a storm. Children who are starting to read can match the spoken words to the written ones.
โ๏ธ Science Car Race for elementary kids (ages 6โ10)
Four lanes and word answers about animal groups, plants, the planets and solids, liquids and gases. These are the same topics many classrooms cover, so it's a fun way to review at home.
๐ Science Car Race for tweens (ages 10โ12)
The fastest karts and the hardest questions: cells and DNA, the layers of the Earth, rocks, forces and energy. Some answers are whole phrases, so reading carefully, and braking when needed, matters most here.
๐ Reading the Finish Card
Each right gate is worth 10 points, so a perfect race scores 100. The medal shows your place. The stars go from 1 to 5: 90 points or more gets all 5, 70 or more gets 4, 50 or more gets 3, and 25 or more gets 2. The Practice these again list shows each missed question with its right answer. If you are signed in to KidWorld, your points count toward your stars and achievements, and guests can play too.
๐ก Why a Science Race Works So Well
Kids who would yawn at a list of science facts will happily read the same fact on a sign while their kart rushes toward it. The race gives every fact a moment of excitement, and that helps it stick.
It rewards thinking, not rushing. Because the place rule only counts wrong answers, children learn that a careful answer beats a fast guess.
It teaches on the spot. The right answer appears in green right away, even after a mistake.
It grows with your child. The same game goes from animal sounds to sedimentary rock.
It's kind. There are no crashes and nothing scary. A wrong answer is just a little wobble.
Every question was written by hand, and every wrong option is wrong in every fair reading, so children are never marked wrong for a sensible answer. A race lasts about five minutes.
